Nowadays, co-simulation is a very useful tool to combine detailed models of different domains for multi-modal analyses, to integrate components with different software stacks and to split the computational load of simulations between several machines.
Among different all-purpose co-simulation frameworks the open source tool Mosaik is special in the way that it focuses on high usability and simple simulation setups.
