The ERIGrid 2.0 Summer School on Advanced Operation and Control of Active Distribution Networks, 2nd Edition took place from June 3rd-6th 2024.
On June 3rd-6th 2024 the ERIGrid 2.0 Summer School on Advanced Operation and Control of Active Distribution Networks, 2nd Edition took place at the National Technical University Athens in Athens, Greece.
The first and second day of the ERIGrid 2.0 Summer School consisted of lectures and HIL lab sessions at School of Electrical and Computer Engineering – NTUA, including industrial experiences.
The lectures held, included:
- “Microgrids as building blocks of smart grids” by Prof. Nikos Hatziargyriou
- “Microgrid primary and secondary control” by Athanasios Vassilakis and Dr. Dimitris Lagos
- “Advanced laboratory testing of active distribution networks” by Panos Kotsampopoulos and Alkistis Kontou
- “Advanced ancillary services from PV& Storage Units”, by Dr. George Makrides
- “Digitalized centralized protection applying 5G”, by Prof. Mazaher Karimi
- “Deep learning for energy forecasting”, by Dr. George Sideratos
- “Cybersecurity of active distributions networks” by Prof. Charalambos (Harrys) Konstantinou
- “Cybersecurity of load-frequency control of smart energy systems” by Andrew Syrmakesis
Hardware in the loop laboratory sessions focused on:
- Industrial experiences on HIL Testing of industrial Power Plant Controller for RES by PROTASIS SA: Dr. Vasilis Kleftakis performed a live demo
- Cybersecurity of digital substations by Vetrivel Rajkumar
- Hands-on CHIL tests of inverter controls by Alkistis Kontou. Participants were divided in 4 groups for hands-on experience.

3rd day: Visit to the installations of the Greek DSO, ΔΕΔΔΗΕ Α.Ε. HEDNO S.A.:
- Attica’s Distribution Network Control Center: Network Operation – SCADA – DMS
- HEDNO Experts Session led by kostas kalatzis and Theodoros Boumis
- Tour at HEDNO Laboratories of Electricity Meters and Measurement Transformers
4th day: Lectures on:
- “Decentralized control and blockchain” by Prof. Iasonas Kouveliotis-Lysikatos
- “Leveraging flexibility in smart distribution networks”, by Dr. angelina syrri
- “Electric mobility and power systems”, by Dr. Ioannis (John) Karakitsios
- “Power system resilience assessment and enhancement”, by Ektoras Stasinos
Visit to Meltemi camp pilot site and social activities.
